Morning Reflections

I used to rush through the mornings, trying to put them behind me as quickly as I could. I would sleep in until the last possible second, sometimes even longer; before angrily throwing back the covers and racing around the house in a bid to out race the clock.

I wouldn't begin to breathe again until I was sitting in my chair at work, or at uni, and even then I was so tired that it would only be a half-hearted effort.

Lately I have been trying to snap myself out of this bad habit, and have given myself the gift of an extra thirty minutes every morning. Thirty minutes to enjoy the process of waking up. To enjoy the beginnings of each day.

And so I have been waking up early. Sometimes I won't get out of bed during the thirty minutes. Instead I'll hug Joel while he sleeps, or cuddle my cats, and remind myself just how lucky I am.

Other times I will get up, stretch for a while, then make myself a coffee and sit by the window with my gratitude journal, watching the sun rise and writing down all of the things that I am thankful for.

Mornings no longer feel like a hassle. They no longer seem like something that needs to be gotten through as fast as can be.

In fact, they seem rather magical.

I love mornings, I am a complete mornings person. Everything seems totally doable in the morning. I accomplish things in the morning. As Anne of Green Gables says it's a day with no mistakes in it yet.

I'm going to try this! :)

Once I'm up, dressed and out the door, I can appreciate the mornings. It's just the thought of having to get up and get ready that I hate. I don't know why it's such a hassle, especially since I know it's gorgeous when I'm actually out enjoying it.

its been the longest while that i had woken up early...

i hate the days and find them purposeless unless something inspires me...

but this makes me want to do it... i wish i can get back on being good and right!

I still love mornings. lately, i have been getting up at mid-morning but it's still delightful. I love rocking on the porch or sitting down with my journal and or blogs.

I love this! What's funny is, I did that this morning! I got up early, prayed, wrote in my journal...it was so very refreshing. And it's really hard to beat the peacefulness and stillness of a morning. I often say I am not a morning person...but maybe it's all about how you go about your morning.

Thanks for this!

oh! the morning hours are precious- early in the morning before the kids are up, before everything starts and life waits a bit... just lovely : )

Mornings are indeed magical. With my freshly brewed coffee, I would cherish every minute of the day while everyone else is sound asleep. The morning silence is so beautifully serene and awakening.

Oh, I DO need to take a leaf out of your book. Such a wonderful, wonderful idea. I am in love with the idea of a gratitude journal, too! x

I would love to be able to spend more time enjoying my mornings, but I am so rushed to get ready for work/the gym every day. Once I am there, I can kind of calm down, but I am so busy constantly. It's ridiculous, sometimes.

Yes! I'm glad you do this too! I am an absolute beast in the morning and find that I must allow time to settle before I start my day.

This sounds so wonderful. I think I will set my alarm for 30 minutes earlier tomorrow and hope that I don't hit the snooze a hundred times! :)

oh, I'm so glad you've started doing this! I'm very much a morning person and my favorite thing is to have a nice slow, leisurely morning. So when I have to work, I wake up a bit early just so I can slowly wake up rather than rushing for the door. Always makes for a better day!

Yes, I agree with this completely! I call it "easing in to the day". If I rush to work, having only got out of bed 45 minutes earlier, I can guarantee a crap day. I much prefer mornings in which I have time to drink my tea, make porridge, write my journal, do some yoga, etc.

now that it's not pitch black when i wake up in the morning, i'm more inclined to actually get up and enjoy it. it's hard though when i have to get up at 6.30am, i really want to stay in bed for as long as possible!
mornings are the most magical time of day. i'm usually up before the sun for work, but on the days i get to lounge for a few hours are beyond heaven-sent.

i am definitely going to try this. i want my mornings to be a beautiful thing and not a "have to drag myself out of bed" kinda thing. ;)
