A little break from winter

This week has been one of those glorious early spring weeks. Where, after months of bitterly cold days and below zero nights, we were finally rewarded with day after day of clear blue skies and unseasonably warm weather. Days filled with energy, because rather than the shrill sound of the alarm snapping us out of our slumber, we slowly wake naturally to sun shining through the windows. Days where scarves, coats and gloves have been put aside in favour of colourful dresses and cardigans. Days where walking has again become preferable to driving, as has ambling to rushing.

Lunch hasn’t been spent huddled up in the office next to the heater, but outside with a good book under a tree. People are smiling and laughing, the winter depression being put on hold this week in favour of kind gestures and happy conversation with strangers.

Writing isn’t been done in bed with the electric blanket on and a cup of tea; but seated in the lounge room next to the open window, or on the balcony soaking up the sun. And while electric blankets and tea are wonderful, there is nothing quite like fresh air and sunshine to get those creative juices flowing.

Phones have been buzzing, as a night spent curled up at home has become less appealing than going on night-time adventures under the Cheshire Cat moon.

While this is a temporary set-back in winter’s path, one that will be over in a matter of days, my oh my but wasn’t it needed. Suddenly spring doesn’t seem that far off. Winter doesn’t seem so endless anymore. And we have been jolted out of our seasonal depression just long enough to realise how much there is to look forward to in the second half of the year.

xoxo

ps. thank you all so so much for your lovely comments on my last post, you have no idea how much it means to me.

Sounds so lovely. Great you are getting to soak up some sun. We had such a cold spring, here in the mid-west states. Since I'm from Nebraska..we are slap dab in the heartland.

Suddenly, its turned into a humid world that just won't let go. Honestly, I'm ready for fall. As much as I had more than enough snow this year, I'm beginning to miss it.

As much as I love the sun and heat, Autumn will still always be my favourite season :)

Would you believe it - I actually sweat today? I was in the sun and instead of turning up my jacket collar against the biting icy wind, I actually sweat. Perhaps not the most pleasant of reminders that it is going to be alright, but certainly a reminder of sorts. Isn't it lovely? I'm glad you're enjoying it too. Take care!

It always feels weird when you lot down under talk about the seasons and we're experiencing the opposite. It seems so strange for it to be winter in July and summer in December, it makes my head go funny! Lovely words tho my lovely. Enjoy your little premature spring.

I know how you feel. The sun finally came out today after days of raining here. Though I'm not sure if I like either of them.

I think I'm waiting on Fall...

Summer has been VERY uncomfortable and stressful, well, weather wise--the season itself has been very eventful!

oh i love that feeling of spring after the cold winter. even if winter isn't over yet, you can feel the winds of sweet change in the air. i find it to be so inspiring and motivating.
I do love the random days of winter when spring seems to poke through. It always reminds me that sunshine and warmth is just around the corner.

I second the sunny, hot picture of Australia- it's prominent in my mind as well! It's neat to think of it in a new way. I love the idea of reading under a tree :) you're such a good writer.

Spring will be here before you know it. But this post just reminded me that I need to get out there and enjoy summer and fall before winter sneaks up on me here.

I love your description of spring! And while you are eagerly awaiting spring, I'm eagerly awaiting the start of autumn! Our summer this year has been so wet and miserable, that at least with autumn you expect a bit of rain, so are less likely to feel disappointed by the weather! And it's cold enough to wear coats and scarves and boots, rather than summer clothes with waterproof jackets (so depressing!).xx

Guest Post: Vanisha

Hey guys, here is the last guest post and I couldn't have picked someone better (if I do say so myself). I have only known Vanisha's blog for a short time but I'm already hooked. It's funny, honest and there are always beautiful photos to drool over. PLUS she lives in Canberra and does a much better job of summing up my awesome home-town than I do. Enjoy! Hello! I'm Vanisha from Vanisha's In Life...Australia  Kaylia invited me to write a guest post whilst she's on her fabulous holiday! Being asked to write a guest post almost feels like being invited into someone's home. I'm honored. Kaylia said write about "anything" so I thought I'd write about an amazing trip I recently took.  A lot of people find it odd that of all places, we decided to got to Timor Lestse. Let me preface this decision a little. It all started in front of this fire place in the middle of winter in the Kangaroo Valley. Two acquaintances sat. Trying to get war

Guest post from Deidre of Decoybetty

Here is another guest post from a fabulous blogger; this time it's Deidre from Decoybetty. This blog is one of the funniest, most honest, most inspiring blog around (with the occasional dash of delicious recipes to boot). Check out her beautiful blog at www.decoybetty.com and you'll see why she is one of my all-time favourites. Guest post: When Kaylia asked me to write a guest post, I stared at the blank screen and the only things that came to mind is how every post that Kaylia writes, I read along going “Yes! Yes! Yes!”  This girl writes (albeit way more eloquently) what I’m thinking.  But you read her blog, you know how fabulous she is.   She recently wrote about the ‘anonymity’ of travel. I’m addicted to this feeling.  I’m an expat. I was born in America and got my first taste of Australia in the young adult book “Looking for Alibrandi” where a teenager skips school to hang out with a boy which is basically all the things I am not. I’d never skip school and I didn’t r

Guest Post: Brandi of ´Not Your Average Ordinary´

This guest post is quite exciting for me, as Brandi was actually the reason I first started my blog. She was one of my first followers and has been such an inspiration throughout this whole process. On top of that she is the sweetest person ever and such a beautiful woman inside and out. Without further ado, here she is: Ritual I was so flattered when Kaylia asked me to guest post for her. You see, she's one of my favorite sources of inspiration and honesty on the great big blogosphere. I was sipping tea, trying to decide what to write and feeling more unsure of myself than ever. It's been a bit like that lately in my world. When moments like those overwhelm me, I stop what I'm doing and brew a pot of tea. The first cup is reflection, the second poured becomes evaluation, the remaining cups devoted to action. It's one of the best things I do for myself all day, the little ritual. There’s something wonderful about daily rituals – those little times during the
