Top Ten Pick-Me-Ups when you’re having a really bad day

Apologies for missing my ‘health blog’ day yesterday, I really did have every intention to do it. Unfortunately intentions aren’t everything, and instead of doing that I ran into someone else’s car. And yep, it was definitely my fault. (The person was okay, thank goodness!) That will teach me to sing and dance in my car rather than bother to remember the road rules...

It was not the greatest day ever.

BUT I think I whinged and moaned and cried enough yesterday to last me a lifetime, so time to get positive today! As it is Friday (in Australia, completely forgot about the time difference for my American readers), here is a little Friday list.

Top Ten Pick-Me-Ups when you’re having a really bad day:

1. Cry. If you need a mini-breakdown, even if you know that you are completely overreacting, then have it. Trust me, there is nothing like a good hour long cry to make you feel better.

2. Do something that makes you feel special; whether it’s dressing up, having a bath or curling your hair.

3. Watch something on television that you love. Make sure it’s either really funny, or sugary sweet and uplifting.

4. Take time out. Have ALL of those things that you need to do? Too bad for those things, you are taking some much needed personal time off.

5. Read Anne of Green Gables. Yes, very specific I know, but nothing warms the soul quite like this book.

6. Bake! What is more therapeutic than baking? Plus: You get to eat the mixture.

7. Do something that gets you moving. Hit the gym, do some yoga, round up some friends for a game of basketball, or dance like crazy around your house.

8. Do something nice for someone else. Donate clothing or money, write a letter to friend, or even just send someone a quick text to let them know how amazing you think they are.

9. Hug a loved one. Nothing is more comforting than that J

10. Eat your weights worth in chocolate!

Or you could just take this advice:

Weekend Challenge: Do at least two of the things on this list!

That sounds like the pits and I can imagine that would make anyone feel in the pits. You have the right attitude for rain, though. I will defintely try to eat my weight in chocolate and do something sweet for some else(if I can move). Seriously, thanks for the post. I hope today is looking up.

Well, it is good to have a good cry ...from time to time. And the idea of keep moving. Always a good idea to do some good things for yourself.

Hope today was much better.

I'm moving into school this weekend and I accept your challenge. I may do yoga and eat my weight in chocolate, because I'm a walking contradiction and both will be beneficial though the crying may happen too.

I think I'm going to try 1,5 & 8 this weekend, along with some Johnny Depp & Meg Ryan films.

Good post!

Oh gosh, yes! Anne of Green Gables! You are truly wonderful, you know? That fills me with utter joy, that book. I love that you added that. By the way, that's a brilliant list, and I couldn't agree more about crying your heart out and feeling better. It's a quick road to relief. Thankyou for this list and I hope that you have an absolutely beautiful day tomorrow to make up for the not-so-great one. Take care.

This is a really cute post. I totally agree with going to the gym. It's something I haven't done in way, way, way too long.

I'm so sorry about the accident. I just hit my car earlier this summer (against a pole, so no other party involved) and it was such a big hassle. Hope you, your car, and your insurance are all right.

I always feel better when I get a hug...I have heard it releases good feeling endorphins throughout your body which starts to make you feel great.

Great tips, i think I may try the bubble bath and doing something nice for someone else :)

I definitely decide to just be awesome instead when I have bad days. Okay, not always, but you're right: comedies, baking, and chocolate all definitely help. I'm so sorry to hear about the accident yesterday. At least you're okay and the other person is okay and that's all that matters.

I love these ideas for a little pick me up. I need to remind myself that its ok to take time for myself if I'm feelin low. For some reason I just feel guilty.

Tooootally commiserate on the rotten day having. Sorry it happened to you - you seem so sweet. Thank you for reminding me of Anne of Green Gables! She's so wonderful, I fell in love when I was a kid. Revisit time. Also, chocolate- hello! Of course that's the cure! Hope your weekend is looking up. xoxo
I am sorry to hear about what happened! I have done the same thing before. I know how upsetting it is. Especially to playing it over and over in your mind. These are great tips though! I hope you are better! Everything will be okay :)

Well I hope you are ok as well! Car accidents are very unnerving!

Guest Post: Vanisha

Hey guys, here is the last guest post and I couldn't have picked someone better (if I do say so myself). I have only known Vanisha's blog for a short time but I'm already hooked. It's funny, honest and there are always beautiful photos to drool over. PLUS she lives in Canberra and does a much better job of summing up my awesome home-town than I do. Enjoy! Hello! I'm Vanisha from Vanisha's In Life...Australia  Kaylia invited me to write a guest post whilst she's on her fabulous holiday! Being asked to write a guest post almost feels like being invited into someone's home. I'm honored. Kaylia said write about "anything" so I thought I'd write about an amazing trip I recently took.  A lot of people find it odd that of all places, we decided to got to Timor Lestse. Let me preface this decision a little. It all started in front of this fire place in the middle of winter in the Kangaroo Valley. Two acquaintances sat. Trying to get war

Guest post from Deidre of Decoybetty

Here is another guest post from a fabulous blogger; this time it's Deidre from Decoybetty. This blog is one of the funniest, most honest, most inspiring blog around (with the occasional dash of delicious recipes to boot). Check out her beautiful blog at www.decoybetty.com and you'll see why she is one of my all-time favourites. Guest post: When Kaylia asked me to write a guest post, I stared at the blank screen and the only things that came to mind is how every post that Kaylia writes, I read along going “Yes! Yes! Yes!”  This girl writes (albeit way more eloquently) what I’m thinking.  But you read her blog, you know how fabulous she is.   She recently wrote about the ‘anonymity’ of travel. I’m addicted to this feeling.  I’m an expat. I was born in America and got my first taste of Australia in the young adult book “Looking for Alibrandi” where a teenager skips school to hang out with a boy which is basically all the things I am not. I’d never skip school and I didn’t r

Guest Post: Brandi of ´Not Your Average Ordinary´

This guest post is quite exciting for me, as Brandi was actually the reason I first started my blog. She was one of my first followers and has been such an inspiration throughout this whole process. On top of that she is the sweetest person ever and such a beautiful woman inside and out. Without further ado, here she is: Ritual I was so flattered when Kaylia asked me to guest post for her. You see, she's one of my favorite sources of inspiration and honesty on the great big blogosphere. I was sipping tea, trying to decide what to write and feeling more unsure of myself than ever. It's been a bit like that lately in my world. When moments like those overwhelm me, I stop what I'm doing and brew a pot of tea. The first cup is reflection, the second poured becomes evaluation, the remaining cups devoted to action. It's one of the best things I do for myself all day, the little ritual. There’s something wonderful about daily rituals – those little times during the
