remembering to breathe

These past few weeks have been all about remembering to breathe.

In. Out. In. Out.

Because I need new air. I need to let go of all of the now stale breaths that I collected over winter and let them flow out into the October rain. I need to cherish the new breaths that come in, roll them around my mouth and lungs, and remember the beauty that each new day brings if I am brave enough to appreciate it.

You see, last month I forgot to breathe. I forgot to let go of old wrongs and I gave into melancholy and bittersweet musings. I gave into panic attacks; short shallow breathing; and days spent worrying over the future so strongly that I forgot the present completely.

This month is about breathing deeply. It is about savouring every moment. And it is about focusing on the present, using my breaths to keep me centred.

Yes ma'am!! Anthony de Mello is an amazing teacher on the subject. I'm glad you've become "aware" and good luck with every breath :-)

it's spring! and it's a great time to think postitively about the future.

but i know exactly what you mean, lately i've definitely found it easy to focus on a few things that i shouldn't and i need to make a concerted effort to stop that.

i hope this month is a better one for you!

Oh, its never easy..something always comes up. The trick is..not to let a thing in the world push your buttons. Easy does it..of course, easier said than done.

Good luck!

Hey, I felt like my breathing improved by reading this post! :) But really, sometimes I realize when I'm anxious, I'm hardly breathing at all, almost holding my breath. Since breath is such a staple attribute of life, it's important to be conscious of it :)

Nice post...

Oh you made me rethink my last month too, oh maybe I do gave in to some stress... I need to breathe too, and always try to think positively too. It is when I have a negative thought that I forget to breathe right.
Sometimes it's easy to forget something as basic as breathing deep and well. Thanks for reminding me! :)

I am such a planner and such a hyper person that I sometimes forget to stop and enjoy life. I mean, I try to make everything as fun as possible. I don't waste any time. I live my life to the fullest. However, sometimes I feel that I get really caught up in trying to live that I forget to stop and enjoy.

I'm trying to breathe in all the fresh autumn air! I don't like fall, but I'm beginning to see the nice things in it :)

I agree. This month is also about pacing yourself, not being too anixous, and observing aware of your surroundings--especially those "quiet surfaces."

breathing is important...

It it's interesting how something that we need to do to survive becomes so...forgotten.

Exactly the reminder I needed! I've found myself really stressed lately and forgetting that sometimes the best remedy is just to breathe.

I was there last month. I literally had a panic attack...not good.
And I'm here with you this month...savoring each deep new, cleansing breath!

After I had my little girl my brain short circuited a little and things got hard, 7/11 breathing was one of the thing that helped me lots. Deep, slow breaths in that make your tummy stick out for the count of 7 and then back out slowly for the count of 11. It works.

Really glad you're feeling better.

Guest Post: Brandi of ´Not Your Average Ordinary´

This guest post is quite exciting for me, as Brandi was actually the reason I first started my blog. She was one of my first followers and has been such an inspiration throughout this whole process. On top of that she is the sweetest person ever and such a beautiful woman inside and out. Without further ado, here she is: Ritual I was so flattered when Kaylia asked me to guest post for her. You see, she's one of my favorite sources of inspiration and honesty on the great big blogosphere. I was sipping tea, trying to decide what to write and feeling more unsure of myself than ever. It's been a bit like that lately in my world. When moments like those overwhelm me, I stop what I'm doing and brew a pot of tea. The first cup is reflection, the second poured becomes evaluation, the remaining cups devoted to action. It's one of the best things I do for myself all day, the little ritual. There’s something wonderful about daily rituals – those little times during the...

Guest post from Deidre of Decoybetty

Here is another guest post from a fabulous blogger; this time it's Deidre from Decoybetty. This blog is one of the funniest, most honest, most inspiring blog around (with the occasional dash of delicious recipes to boot). Check out her beautiful blog at www.decoybetty.com and you'll see why she is one of my all-time favourites. Guest post: When Kaylia asked me to write a guest post, I stared at the blank screen and the only things that came to mind is how every post that Kaylia writes, I read along going “Yes! Yes! Yes!”  This girl writes (albeit way more eloquently) what I’m thinking.  But you read her blog, you know how fabulous she is.   She recently wrote about the ‘anonymity’ of travel. I’m addicted to this feeling.  I’m an expat. I was born in America and got my first taste of Australia in the young adult book “Looking for Alibrandi” where a teenager skips school to hang out with a boy which is basically all the things I am not. I’d never skip school and I didn’t r...

Guest Post: Vanisha

Hey guys, here is the last guest post and I couldn't have picked someone better (if I do say so myself). I have only known Vanisha's blog for a short time but I'm already hooked. It's funny, honest and there are always beautiful photos to drool over. PLUS she lives in Canberra and does a much better job of summing up my awesome home-town than I do. Enjoy! Hello! I'm Vanisha from Vanisha's In Life...Australia  Kaylia invited me to write a guest post whilst she's on her fabulous holiday! Being asked to write a guest post almost feels like being invited into someone's home. I'm honored. Kaylia said write about "anything" so I thought I'd write about an amazing trip I recently took.  A lot of people find it odd that of all places, we decided to got to Timor Lestse. Let me preface this decision a little. It all started in front of this fire place in the middle of winter in the Kangaroo Valley. Two acquaintances sat. Trying to get war...
